Penchant Media was founded in June 2021 by award-winning journalist and communications consultant Carmen Glover. The online hub was founded to fill the need for content, coaching and news that amplify the global Black and Caribbean voice so that the creative community is diversified.
Carmen Glover is a multiple award-winning journalist and communications consultant who developed a passion for the written and spoken word while growing up in Westmoreland, Jamaica, West Indies. From listening intently as her mother read to her, to eagerly awaiting Friday afternoons when her teacher read excerpts from the classic “Jane Eyre” at Unity Primary School, to discussing the impact of books and literature at The Manning’s School, Carmen’s love for storytelling grew.
She earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism, magna cum laude, at the City University of New York (CUNY)’s Herbert Lehman College and later obtained a master’s degree in Counselor Education, with an emphasis in School Counseling, from the same institution.
Carmen was the editor for the Network Journal, a business magazine located near to Wall Street. In that role, she expanded the readership of the magazine and revamped the publication’s appearance. She has contributed to notable publications including Black Enterprise magazine, the New York Daily News, NAACP’s Crisis magazine, New York Amsterdam News and the National Association of Black Journalists’ Journal. She was a writer and columnist for the North American edition of the Jamaica Gleaner and Copy Editor for Unfold magazine.
She was the Communications Director for a non-profit in Williamsburg, New York, that advocates for low-income housing for Black and Latino residents in Brooklyn. She served on the board of directors as Public Relations Officer for the New York Chapter of the Manning’s School Alumni group, and she currently serves as one of the Administrators for a social media group page.
As Press Attache, Carmen managed the media office at the Consulate General of Jamaica in New York, writing speeches, launching the Consular Capstone newsletter, arranging press junkets, interviews and town hall meetings for dignitaries including Jamaica’s Prime Minister, Ambassadors, Consul General and Members of Parliament. She is an adjunct lecturer who is dedicated to guiding students through the stages of compelling writing and editing.

Our blog aims to provide incisive news that informs and generates discussions. Specifically, our blog will ensure equity in news coverage about the Black and Caribbean experience, a demographic with a paucity of comprehensive reporting.
